Description
Water Pollution Solutions
Baltimore’s waterways suffer from pollution caused by generations of industrial pollution, leaks from aging separate sewer and stormwater infrastructure, extensive hardscape, and widespread littering.
Our actions on land throughout the watershed directly impact water quality in the rivers that feed the Baltimore Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay.
Blue Water Baltimore is works with citizens and local authorities to prevent and remedy four major sources of water pollution:
Monitoring
Blue Water Baltimore routinely monitors water quality at 49 stations in the rivers, streams and harbor of the Patapsco River watershed. Using our data we calculate scores for the health of Baltimore’s waters according to Mid-Atlantic Tributary Assessment Coalition (MTAC) protocol.
Tree Planting
Blue Water Baltimore’s Restoration Team plants and cares for new trees across our watersheds in a variety of spaces including streets, yards, parks, schools, stream buffers, residential properties and private institutions.
Partnerships
We partner with companies, municipalities, religious organizations & other non-profits to extent our reach and prove that solidarity brings about real change in the fight to clean Baltimore’s waterways.
Education
Blue Water Baltimore offers educational programs for all age ranges, preschool to senior. They are great accompaniments to environmental school lessons, MWEE (Meaningful Watershed Education Experience) projects, university courses, and corporate or congregational events.
